Commitment
Commitment - the state or quality of being dedicated to a cause
Christ committed His life to His Father.
Jesus stated in John 8:29….For I do always those things that please Him.
Christ has also made a commitment to us.
Romans 5:8….God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
We too must commit our lives to God
Commitment is the beginning of trusting God.
Psalm 37:5….Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust Him to help you do it and He will.
Matthew 22:37-38….You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment
Galatians 2:20….I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Commitment is the beginning of trusting God.
Psalm 37:5….Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust Him to help you do it and He will.
Jesus said in Luke 14:26-27….If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple. Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after Me cannot be my disciple.
Such commitment means our family and friend relationships may be severed. The bottom line is that those who cannot make that kind of commitment cannot be His disciple.
Jesus serves as our example in every facet of life including the principle of absolute and total commitment.
We can have earthly commitments with Biblical emphasis as well
Commitment - an engagement or obligation that restricts freedom of action
In marriage
Ephesians 5:25….Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.
Genesis 2:18….Then the LORD God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.”
At work
Ephesians 6:5….Bondservants, obey your earthly masters with fear and trembling, with a sincere heart, as you would Christ
At church
Hebrews 10:25….not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
In our health
1 Corinthians 6:19….Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own,
Finally, our commitment to God must be consistent.
Joshua 24:15….But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.
